Getting Started

Installation

(Please skip to Example Applications if the software has already been installed, or if you are using EASA on a cloud server.)

1. Select a computer to act as your EASA Server. It is highly recommended that you use a computer with MS Excel already installed. Alternatively, please contact support@easasoftware.com for instructions on setting up a separate Excel Server. EASA supports only 32-bit versions of Excel. If you install EASA on a machine that only has 64-bit Excel, please contact support@easasoftware.com for instructions on setting up a separate 32-bit Excel Server.

2. Contact us for link to download the EASA installer for Windows: support@easasoftware.com, then download it.

If you’d prefer a Linux version please contact support@easasoftware.com.

3. Right-click the installer and select 'Run as administrator'. Select the default installation folder or choose a different folder name without spaces. Also select a folder where EASA data will be stored. Select 'Standard' installation. Eventually the window below will appear:

4. Before clicking the Finish button, please make a note of the URL shown. The default is http://localhost:80/easa. If port 80 is already in use make a note of the alternative port number (in the screenshot above its port 8080). This is the URL to access the EASA system on the local machine (screenshot below step 8).

5. If you or your colleagues need to access EASA from other machines on your network, replace 'localhost' with the full computer name on which EASA is installed. The URL should look something like: http://computername:80/easa/. You may send this link to other users within your organization.

6. Before clicking the Finish button select the checkbox: 'Start EASA Server'. This will install the EASA Server to be run automatically upon computer startup as a 'Windows Service'.

7. You may need to add EASA to your firewall exception list depending on your system. By default EASA uses port 80.

8. A browser window should launch automatically (below). Alternatively you can access EASA with a web browser using the URL you noted in step 4.

9. Bookmark the page, then log in using:

  • User name→author
  • Password→author

10. The EASA Server you have downloaded is a full version, yet we need to activate a 30-day trial license which includes customer support.

11. Click the EASA→Set Mode tab and select Administrator.

12. Select EASA→Licensing→Request License (below)

13. Copy the string shown in Server id and paste it into an email to mailto:licenses@easasoftware.com (ignore 'Customer Code' for now).

14. Optional: To edit the default user-accounts or to add more user-accounts, set EASA→Set Mode→Administrator, then go to EASA→Configure→Users. When adding a user, ensure that User Groups→‘All Categories’ is selected, and that Author is selected if the new user is to have authoring permissions. Finally return to Author mode by selecting EASA→Set Mode→Author.

Example Applications (EASAPs)

1. Log in to your EASA site using:

  • User name→author
  • Password→author

(or the User name and Password sent to you by an EASA administrator)

2. EASA installs with several example applications, or EASAPs. You will see them under EASA→Authoring→Applications→All EASAPs. If you are accessing EASA from a machine other than the one on which EASA is installed, you will need to install the EASA Client. Select any EASAP, and at the bottom of the page you will see:

Click on the 'EASA Client' link and install the appropriate client. It will not be necessary for Users to install the EASA Client—only Authors. You can select and then test the example applications under EASA→Authoring→Testing. The example applications are not published, so they will not be visible in User mode until you publish them under EASA→Authoring→Publish.

The tutorials cover a wide variety of GUI objects and reporting functions.

A short description of three of the tutorials and their EASAP user interfaces can be found below:

The Mortgage Calculator runs finance calculations in an Excel spreadsheet.

The Stock Screener Tool uses a database and builds and runs custom SQL queries from user inputs.

The Cantilever Plate Loading Analysis uses a Windows batch application to simulate a user-selected load on a plate with variable dimensions.

Authoring your first application (EASAP)
