Configuring Compute Servers

Note: A default EASA installation includes a Local Compute Server and, if Excel is installed on a Windows installation, a Local Excel Server. Thus it is possible to complete the EASA authoring tutorials before configuring compute servers for your environment.

As explained at EASA System Components, an important component of the EASA system is a Compute Server, accessible via communications with the EASA Server. A Compute Server must be configured and tested to link with the EASA Server.

Overall, the main job of a Compute Server is to run software applications. There are two main goals to configure a Compute Server:

  • Get the EASA Server to communicate properly with the Compute Server, and
  • Define the software applications to be run on the Compute Server.

The steps below will accomplish this:

  • Determine the communication methodology between the EASA Server and Compute Server, and if needed install Remote Server software on the Compute Server.
  • Use the Compute Server Configuration Tool to configure a Compute Server in the EASA system.
  • Update and test a Compute Server to make them active.

Note: A firewall service running on the Compute Server or anywhere between the Compute Server and EASA Server may prevent connection to the necessary ports.

The steps below describe how to configure a Compute Server in the EASA system. Several examples of adding and configuring Compute Servers are provided at the Examples of Adding Compute and Excel Servers page.
