Practical Session 3: Add Diagram

Estimated completion time = 15 minutes.

In this practical session, you will create a diagram representing a dynamic schematic of the plate. The figure below provides a view of how your EASAP should look at the end of this session.

Please follow the instructions below to complete this practical session. Detailed information on the objects created in this session can be found at the Author's Pages.

  • Log in and EASA→Set Mode→Author
  • Under the EASA→Applications→My EASAPs find your ‘Rectangular Plate’ EASAP.
  • Click on it then click on the EASAP Builder link in the new page.

Now you are ready to create your first diagram.

  • Right-click DIAGRAM LIST and select Child→Add DIAGRAM (). Rename it plate1.

We need a white rectangular background for our diagram.

  • Right-click plate1 and select Child → Add RECTANGLE (). Rename it background and set:
Parameter Name Parameter Value
Origin:-0.25*W, -0.15*L
Size:1.5*W, 1.5*L+t+0.4*W
Fill Style:White

We need another rectangle to show a top view of our W x L plate

  • Right-click background and select Sibling→Add RECTANGLE. Rename it topview and set:
Parameter Name Parameter Value
Size:W, L
Fill Style:Blue
Line Style:Black t1 full

We also need and 'end view' or 'side view' of our plate.

  • Right-click topview and select Sibling→Add RECTANGLE. Rename it sideview and set:
Parameter Name Parameter Value
Size:W, t
Fill Style:Green
Line Style:Black t1 full

The next step is to associate the new diagram with any TABBED PANE's in which it should be displayed.

  • Expand the TABBED PANE LIST and select props. Click in the Diagram: parameter value box, and a pop- up window showing plate1 will appear. Select it and hit OK on this window
  • Save and check your work.

The first TABBED PANE window should now look like this:

You can also check on the diagram functionality by making changes to values for the Width, Length or Thickness.

Note: If the diagram does not appear as expected, please check the ordering of your objects in the EASAP. From top to bottom, the order of objects within plate1 should be background, topview, sideview.

  • Right-click sideview and select Sibling→Add TEXT (). Set:
Parameter Name Parameter Value
Origin:0, 1.4*L+t
Label:Plate Diagram
Font Color:Black
Font Name:Arial
Font Type:Bold
Font Size:18
  • Save the EASAP and check your work. The EASAP tree should look like this:

  • When you are done checking your EASAP exit EASAP Builder
  • In your web browser select EASA→Authoring→Backup
  • On the page that appears, type ‘End of Practical Session 4’ in the white text box and then click on the Backup button.

You should then be taken to a new page that states the ‘EASAP backed up successfully.’

You are now finished with Practical Session 3.
