System Software Requirements

There are no special requirements for a Database Server.

EASA is a high-level programming language, thus EASAP's vary in their computational resource requirements. The requirements below are recommendations based on typical use cases.

* Performance and practical system requirements will depend on,

  • specific application
  • system configuration
  • usage scenario

An Excel Server requires the most computational resources, see EASA Hardware Requirements.

EASA Server

  • Windows System,
    • Quad-core 3GHz
    • One of the following supported 64-bit operating systems,
      • Windows XP Professional
      • Windows 7 / 8 / 10
      • Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2012 / 2016
  • 20 GB minimum of available hard-disk space for installation and file storage
  • 8 GB of available RAM

The above requirements can be adjusted downward for 'low User number' or 'low complexity' EASA deployments.

  • Linux System,
    • In addition to the above requirements, an up-to-date RHEL or Debian distribution or a derivative is recommended
      • → (eg. Ubuntu, CentOS).

We recommend using a well-supported, current distribution for running a Linux EASA Server.

Client Computers

Web Browser Client

  • For a Web Browser Client machine a User must have,
    • Internet Explorer 8 or over (de-activate Compatibility View), Firefox (v.61 or earlier), Chrome or Safari
    • Network connection to the EASA Server
    • Screen Resolution of at least 1024×768 ( greater is recommended)

Excel Desktop Client

  • An Excel Client machine requires the above and a local 32-bit installation of Excel 2010 14.0.7165.5000 or later.
  • A User will be prompted to install the EASA Ribbon the first time an Excel Client EASAP is run.

EASA Client

  • For an EASA Client machine ( EASAP Builder or Compute Server Configuration Tool ) an Author must have,
    • Windows XP, Windows 7 / 8 / 10
    • Network connection to EASA Server
    • Screen Resolution of at least 1024×768 (greater is recommended)
    • 150 MB of available hard-disk space for EASA Client installation
    • An Author must have a local 32-bit version of Excel to create an Excel Server or Excel Client EASAP

Compute Server

  • EASA supports communication with Compute Servers running the operating systems below,
    • Windows XP Professional
    • Windows 7 / 8 /10
    • Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2012 / 2016

For additional details see Configuring Compute Servers.

Excel Server

An EASAP will often utilize a 'live' Excel spreadsheet.

This type of EASAP requires at least one dedicated Excel process per simultaneous User, for a large or computationally intensive spreadsheet this requires significant CPU and memory.

In addition to the software requirements below, an Excel Server has very specific hardware requirements

  • An Excel Server requires one of the following 32-bit versions of Microsoft Excel,
    • Excel 2003 / 2007 / 2010 / 2013 / 2016 (including Office 365 versions)
  • The Excel version above needs to be running on one of the following operating systems,
    • Windows XP Professional
    • Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10
    • Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2012 / 2016

EASA requires an Office feature called Visual Basic for Applications, found under 'Office Shared Features' in the feature tree when customizing the installation of Office.

EXPORT TO PDF requires Excel 2007 Service Pack 3 or later Excel version.

In all cases, the 32-bit installer of Excel must be used even when installing on a 64-bit operating system.

EASA supports only the English language version of Excel.
