Session 3: Create a DIAGRAM

Estimated completion time → 15 minutes.

In this session we create and display a dynamic schematic diagram of the plate.

Then we make a backup of our unfinished EASAP.

At the end of this session the EASAP GUI should appear as below,


A. Create a dynamic DIAGRAM with three RECTANGLE's

  • if not already in the Builder log in and EASA→Set Mode→Author
  • under EASA→Applications→My EASAPs find our Rectangular Plate EASAP
  • click on it then click on the EASAP Builder link in the new page
  • in the EASAP Builder window,
  • right-click DIAGRAM LIST
    • select Child→Add DIAGRAM () rename it plate1
  • we need a white rectangular background for our diagram, later objects will be rendered 'on top off' this rectangle…
  • right-click plate1
    • select Child → Add RECTANGLE () rename it background
      • set
        • Origin: -0.25*W, -0.15*L
        • Size: 1.5*W, 1.5*L+t+0.4*W
        • Fill Style: White
  • we add another rectangle to show a 'top view' of our W x L plate
  • right-click background
    • select Sibling→Add RECTANGLE rename it topview
      • set
        • Origin: 0,0
        • Size: W, L
        • Fill Style: Blue
        • Line Style: Black t1 full
  • we add an 'end view' or 'side view' of our plate
  • right-click topview
    • select Sibling→Add RECTANGLE rename it sideview
      • set
        • Origin: 0,1.2*L
        • Size: W, t
        • Fill Style: Green
        • Line Style: Black t1 full

B. Display a DIAGRAM on a TABBED PANE

We set the new DIAGRAM to be displayed in the Diagram Region of a TABBED PANE.

The (optional) Diagram Region is always on the left, the Input Region is on the right side of a TABBED PANE.

  • expand USER INTERFACE→TABBED PANE LIST
    • select props
      • click in the Diagram: parameter value box
        • select plate1 in the pop-up window
        • click OK
  • let's check and then Save our work

The first TABBED PANE should appear as below,

Let's check on the dynamic functionality, change the width, length or thickness and confirm the diagram changes accordingly.

If the diagram does not appear as expected, check the order of the RECTANGLE's on the Tree; from top to bottom, plate1 should have Child objects background, topview, and sideview in that order.


C. Annotate a DIAGRAM with TEXT

  • right-click sideview
    • select Sibling→Add TEXT ().
      • set
        • Origin: 0, 1.4*L+t
        • Label: Plate Diagram
        • Font Color: Black
        • Font Name: Arial
        • Font Type: Bold
        • Font Size: 18
  • check the EASAP and Save
  • the EASAP Tree should appear as below,


D. Backup an EASAP in progress

  • let's make a backup of our 'working' but not-yet-complete EASAP
  • exit EASAP Builder
  • in a web browser navigate to the EASA Server and select EASA→Authoring→Backup
  • on the page that appears, type ‘End of Session 4’ in the white text box
    • click on the Backup button.
    • → a new page should state the ‘EASAP backed up successfully.’

We have completed Session 3. Let's continue to Session 4.
