Intro | Session 1 | Session 2 | Session 3 | Session 4 | Session 5 | Session 6 | Session 7 | Session 8

This tutorial should take approximately 2 hours to complete.

Practical Sessions

This tutorial is broken down into eight practical sessions:

Scenario

An organization maintains a database which a User will query, results will be saved to an Excel spreadsheet.

Access needs to be available from a phone browser, laptop or tablet.

Our web application must therefore:

  • Automate the process of database interaction
  • Ensure error-free usage across a network
  • Enable a User the ability to share an output *.xls file with his or her colleagues

Tutorial Summary

Here we create a Stock Screener EASAP that interacts with a database of stocks and outputs a Microsoft® Excel spreadsheet.

A snapshot of the completed EASAP interface is shown below,

The EASAP user interface will include filters and queries to let a User refine a stock search within the database.

A User may store the results of a search in a downloadable Excel report.

This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions to Author the EASAP from start to finish.

As we build the application, think about how this could be applied to a database or a business process within your organization.

Tutorial Files

Let's get started with the files we need:

The following files are available:

  • Results.xls - MS Excel spreadsheet to store results of a stock search
  • Stock.jpg - selection image or “thumbnail” for the EASAP
  • report_body.html - HTML template HTML for an EASAP generated report
  • EASAlogo.jpg - banner image located within report_body.html
  • read_StockData.txt - text file containing a SQL query to read data from the database

Let's get Authoring in Session 1.
